Drug Store News, June 29, 2009
Elations, the glucosamine and chondroitin liquid supplement originally developed by Procter & Gamble, already was experiencing quite the resurgence this year before the Elations Co. kicked off a relaunch campaign last month with a reformulated product.
The new formulation of the bone/joint health supplement includes an increased amount of boron, an ingredient that helps deliver improved joint comfort in as little as six days, the company stated. The new Elations formula began replacing the product already on store shelves last month.
Elations plans to herald the benefits of the liquid supplement–once-daily liquid dosing versus three-times-per-day glucosamine/ chondroitin tablets–in an ad campaign across cable TV that includes the Food Network, WE, Soap Net and TBS.
As a subcategory, glucosamine and chondroitin supplements continue to be the best-selling supplements that are not a single-letter vitamin or multivitamin. For the 52 weeks ended April 19, glucosamine/chondroitin products generated $334.2 million in sales across food, drug and mass (excluding Walmart) outlets on growth of 3.6%, according to Information Resources Inc. And while that doesn’t include the $8.1 million in Elations sales over that period, it does suggest the continued growth potential of all supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin, especially as baby boomers continue to make the transition to seniors.

EVERYONE has their own idea of the perfect bach. Ours is the sort that takes you back to sunny childhood days with no cares in the world – shelter from the sun, access to the water, just enough mod cons for a comfortable stay. Tucked away out of sight, such places are usually a long way away from civilisation, but in this case it’s close enough to town to bike, which we do, from the ferry terminal in Picton.
Cariad Bach is our dream come true. Walk into the living room and there is the water – boats bobbing, sunlight sparkling, even dolphins dancing, a whole school of them.
The Marlborough Sounds look every bit as good as any tourist poster. We can see the bellbird whose song we heard outside the window. There are kayaks at the water’s edge and an old dinghy you can use – or you can just sit and dangle your legs in the crystal- clear water.
Inside the bach fresh pastel colours suit the waterside cottage, built by the previous owners in the 1950s. Pre-loved furnishings have been gathered up with a creative eye and there are some irresistible gems that pull the sherbert colours together. Some things came with the bach – the “lemon meringue” formica table, matching chairs (since recovered), old lampshades, a woodgrain formica benchtop (handle with care) and sliding glass cupboards. Other fittings, found in secondhand shops in Picton, Blenheim and Nelson, have been carefully refurbished.
With fond memories of the Sounds from our sailing years, we decided to bring our bikes and use the weekend to explore on land

1 Breathe Easier
The state of the air in your home might not be as obvious as the dirt in your bathtub, but it can be much more dangerous to your family’s health. For instance, the air ducts used by your furnace or air conditioner can contain dust, pollen, bacteria and even mold. And that contaminated air is circulated throughout your home, day after day. Fortunately, it’s relatively inexpensive to hire a company to clean your ducts. Open the windows or create other opportunities for fresh air exchange on an ongoing basis. Plumbing traps need to have proper venting to prevent sewer gas. And gas appliances and woodstoves shouldn’t be drawing on indoor air. Green up your home with house plants, which have been proven by NASA to purify the air. (See the Buying a Sustainable Home column in our July/ August 2009 issue.)
2 Green Your Bedroom
Sheets that have permanent press finishes typically contain formaldehyde, a known carcinogen, which becomes a gas at room temperature. Since you spend so much time in bed, consider staying away from permanent press fabrics, and buy organic cotton sheets or those made from alternative fabrics like hemp or bamboo. Mattresses made from polyurethane foam (“memory foam”) also contain and off-gas a variety of toxic chemicals, including – in some cases – fire retardants

The risk of buying a vehicle with flood damage goes up significantly and along with high demand and low volume, it is likely the price will also increase for used cars in the affected market area.
While a vast majority of the vehicles will be considered a ?Total Loss? by insurance companies and scrapped, there are still hundreds if not thousands that will be back in the market place for resale purposes.
Wholesalers may purchase moderately damaged flood vehicles and sell at auctions across the country, leaving unsuspecting buyers at risk of purchasing a vehicle that has been damaged by Katrina.
Water damaged vehicles can be one of the most serious and costly types of damage. The long-term effects of corroded electronic parts and wiring can be devastating and almost impossible to correct and repair.

Medical Staffing Network Holdings Signs Asset Purchase Agreement and
0 Comments | Manufacturing Close – Up, Jul 15, 2010
Medical Staffing Network Holdings, Inc. on July 8 announced that it has entered into an Asset Purchase Agreement to sell substantially all of its assets to MSN AcquisitionCo, an entity organized and to be owned by the Company’s first lien secured lenders.
In order to facilitate the sale process, the Company has filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The Company expects that its operations will continue uninterrupted during the bankruptcy proceeding. The Chapter 11 filing was made on July 2, in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida in West Palm Beach, Florida. Information about the bankruptcy filing can be obtained at msnreorg.com.
The filing is not expected to impact the Company’s employees or clients. As part of its initial filing, the Company has filed motions seeking assurances from the Court that its employees will continue to receive their usual pay and benefits on an uninterrupted basis and that the escrow arrangement that the Company previously established for the benefit of its VMS clients and subcontractors will continue uninterrupted following the bankruptcy filing. Additionally, to pay the costs of the restructuring process and to assure the Company’s liquidity during the restructuring process, the Company has secured a commitment from its lenders for a $15 million debtor-in-possession revolving credit facility and has filed motions seeking the Court’s approval of the debtor-in-possession financing.
Robert Adamson, the Company’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “The filing of our petition under Chapter 11 is the next step in our efforts to complete the restructuring of our debt and capital in accordance with the terms of the Restructuring Support Agreement that we entered into with our senior secured lenders on June 9. We believe that the filing of our Chapter 11 petition and the signing of the Asset Purchase Agreement move us one step closer to emerging from the restructuring process with a capital structure that will allow us to successfully operate our business in the future.”
Under the Asset Purchase Agreement, MSN AcquisitionCo will purchase substantially all of the Company’s assets and assume certain of the Company’s obligations associated with the purchased assets, including the debtor-in-possession financing described above, through a Court supervised auction and sale under Section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code. The purchase price is $84,122,982.40, which will be paid by the lenders credit bidding the amount of the first lien debt due to them. The proposed sale is also subject to higher and better bids, as approved by the Bankruptcy Court, and to the satisfaction of the closing conditions set forth in the Asset Purchase Agreement. The Company anticipates that the sale will close before August 31.
The Company intends to engage in a bidding process with any and all interested parties

White House report expects $1.47T deficit
WASHINGTON | New estimates from the White House on Friday predict the budget deficit will reach a record $1.47 trillion this year. The government is borrowing 41 cents of every dollar it spends.
That’s actually a little better than the administration predicted in February.
The new estimates paint a grim unemployment picture as the economy experiences a relatively jobless recovery. The unemployment rate, presently averaging 9.5 percent, would average 9 percent next year under the new estimates.
The Office of Management and Budget report projected a still- high unemployment rate of 8.1 percent in 2012. Normal rates are closer to 5.5 percent to 6 percent.
The current record deficit is the $1.41 trillion for 2009.
Treasury to sell off more Citigroup stock
WASHINGTON | The Treasury Department said it will sell 1.5 billion shares of Citigroup stock over the next two months, the latest effort to recoup money from the government’s $700 billion financial bailout. The third phase of Citigroup stock sales will begin immediately and end by Sept. 30, the Treasury said Friday.
The government has already sold 2.6 billion shares for $10.5 billion. Citigroup received $45 billion in taxpayer support in one of the largest bank rescues by the government. Of the $45 billion, $25 billion was converted to a government-ownership stake, with the government receiving 7.7 billion shares of common stock in the summer of 2009, at a share price of $3.25. The government is now selling that off. The bank repaid the other $20 billion in December.
GEneral Electric boosts dividend 20%
More than a year ago, in need of cash after its GE Capital lending unit was overwhelmed by the financial crisis, General Electric did the nearly unthinkable – it slashed its dividend for the first time since the Great Depression.
Now, flush with cash, the conglomerate is starting to reward shareholders again.
GE boosted its quarterly dividend by 2 cents to 12 cents per share Friday, a modest gain compared with the 68 percent cut it made in February 2008. But GE said the increase, earlier than expected, was a sign that things are much better
